The truth is, 2 days before the tournament, Eastsiderzz yet to have a full line-up that can play for 3 whole day. Apex just transferred to Labuan and playing with one of the team there. Li can play on Friday only, then he must get back to Melaka due to family commitment. So we've invited Fesal a.k.a Wak from Labuan to play along with us. And after taking few things into consideration, we've also invited Jaa & A'are, which has been playing with Eastsiderzz during last leg of MPOC 2009. Now the line-up has been set, and we're ready to rumble.
Venue for World Cup Asia (WCA) for this year was at Xtion Paintball Park, Bukit Jalil on 20th until 22nd November 2009. This time, the weather not picking on our side. At our hometown, rain pouring down for almost 2 days non-stop. Heard that KL also got some rain poured on every evening. Seems like last year, WCA will be a lil bit muddy.
For Division 3, there's 48 teams have confirmed their attendance. These teams will be divided into 4 teams and will be playing 10 preliminary games. Then top 4 for each team will be going for 2nd round. Here, they will be divided into 4 teams again and playing 3 games. Then top 8 from these 16 teams will advance to quarterfinal. These 8 teams will be divided into 2 teams and playing 3 games. Then top 2 teams of each group will battle into semifinal & final.
Games for the preliminary round was held on Friday and Saturday. We've started the preliminary games in group C, which same group with another 'brotherhood' teams, Holy Divers and Crazy Hunters, plus team with Apex playing with and also overall champion for MPOC 2009, Oscar Legio X. It's a tough round for us to be one of the top 4 teams. Luckily, just with 6 wins and 4 loses, we've booked ourselves spot to 2nd round as the 4th team.
2nd round games started on Sunday morning, which we're facing 3 teams (sorry, I can't recalled which team but one of them is PPS Syndrome). If I'm not mistaken, we're getting 2 wins and 1 draw. For this round, we've managed to be the 5th team that qualified to the quarterfinal.
Games for quarterfinal started after lunch and we've grouped together with Nitamago 1 (we lost to them in preliminary round), PPS Syndrome ( we draw with them in 2nd round) and 1 other team, either Zoo or Fearless (dang! now I'm getting confused between previous & this round!). We got 2 wins and 1 loss. Nitamago 1 and PPS Syndrome also got 2 wins and 1 loss. To make it worse, Elimination Difference (E/D) points were equal for all of these 3 teams. Unfortunately, referring to 2009 PALS Rulebook, Eastsiderzz didn't qualify to advance to next round due to our position in 2nd round (Nitamago 1: 1st, PPS Syndrome: 4th, Eastsiderzz: 5th). So we ended up in 5th position (click here for detail ranking).
So that's our story. I know this is not the result that we're hoping for. I believe all of us will be satisfied if we lose most of the games in quarterfinal instead being decided like this. Well, it's already stated in the rulebook. Doesn't matter how we hated this decision, we have to accept it.
