MPOC 2010 4th Leg - Our Story

Yeah! Looks like it’s a new record for me because I’m able to publish our story a day after the tournament ended J

4th Leg of MPOC 2010 being held on 24th & 25th July 2010 at Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur. I believe this is the first time (since last year) that any MPOC leg being held at other location than Bukit Jalil. It’s also the debut of SupAir Arena field. For Eastsiderzz, this 4th leg meant much more for us because the chase for overall champion of Division 2 MPOC 2010 stills a close fight. We’re leading the overall ranking with Red Sevens just 2 points away.

Day 1

Actually for Division 2, every team will have 5 preliminary matches. But for Eastsiderzz, we only have 4 matches and 1 walkover match. It’s lucky that I draw no 7 during the team draw on last night Captain’s meeting J. So for preliminary matches, Eastsiderzz will face Ronin Nexus (I believe it’s a combination of Jesselton Nexus and Ronin Lunacy players), Jokerz, Dark Angels and Red Sevens.

Eastsiderzz lineup for this leg is Apex, Shah, Jaa, Pojie, Mamat and me. A’are was unable to join us due to work commitment.

Our second match (first match was a walkover) was with Ronin Nexus. We managed to score on 1st game but folded for 2nd and 3rd game. There goes our 1st defeat of the day. Well, it become a ritual actually for Eastsiderzz to lose on our first match of the day J

Our third match was with Jokerz. Even though we still adapting with lineup, tactics and field familiarization, we managed to score 2-0 win with them. On the other note, our friend Zul from Crazy Hunter was a guest player with Jokerz.

Our fourth match was with Dark Angels. Bear in mind that on last leg, we only managed to draw 1-1 with them. So this time we’re gonna make sure that the win is on our side. We win on the 1st game but not on the 2nd game. That time I think that it might be either a dejavu for us or worst. Alhamdulillah, we managed to win this match.

Our fifth and last match was with Red Sevens. Actually during this time, it doesn’t matter which team win or lose because both of us have confirmed the spot of 2nd and 3rd for semifinal and we still will face each other again in the semifinal. The advantage is, if on the semifinal match winning team still cannot be decided after the overtime, there are big possibilities that the winning team of this preliminary match will be a winner and proceed to the final. Personally, I think this head-to-head match is important to both side. Why? If Red Sevens win, it shows that they can ‘crack our code’ and definitely will give boost to them on the semifinal match. But if we win, well, that’s mean we still maintain a clean records of winning against them J. Alhamdulillah again, Eastsiderzz managed to win 2-0 with them. Definitely Red Sevens will change their approach when we face again in the semifinal.

With all completed preliminary matches for Division 2, here the 4 teams that will be in the semifinals; Ronin Nexus vs Urban X and Eastsiderzz vs Red Sevens.

Day 2

First semifinal match is between Ronin Nexus and Urban X. Even though with all-win-result on day 1, it looks like Ronin Nexus nearly being topped by Urban X. But Ronin Nexus able to regroup back and book one spot on the final match.

Second semifinal match is between Eastsiderzz and Red Sevens. This is the turning point for the overall champion pursue. If we win, we can separate ourselves a little bit more so we’ll have a comfortable position on the final leg. If we lose, then we have to fight much harder later. And also, that’s mean Red Sevens have found a way to beat us J.

On the first game, it looks like Red Sevens didn’t make major changes in their tactics. So we’re able to close the game and get the first win. Same goes on the second game. The only mistake we made was we close the game carelessly. With four players of our side, we still unable to take down one of theirs L. That’s the mistake that we’ll remember forever. So on the third game, we took back the win and guarantee our spot in the final.

So for the 3rd & 4th placing, Urban X will face Red Sevens, and in the final, Ronin Nexus will meet Eastsiderzz.

It’s quite an important battle for a 3rd & 4th placing match. Both teams need to win to achieve their target. Red Sevens needs to win so they can close the gap with Eastsiderzz in pursuing overall champion title. Urban X needs to win to close the gap for 2nd place with Red Sevens. They also need to prove that they can overcome Red Sevens in a match. This match going for 3 games and Urban X grabbed the title as 2nd runner up for 4th Leg MPOC 2010.

Based on preliminary round result, Eastsiderzz won’t stand a chance when facing Ronin Nexus. But anything can happen in any matches. We proved that the tactics that we adapted during halfway of the preliminary round until semifinal match make a big difference in the final. Also 1-for-1 penalties for Ronin Nexus helped us to end the match with 2-0 result. Again in 4th Leg of MPOC 2010, we were crowned as champion.

As usual, I would like to thank my teammates during this leg; Apex, Shah, Jaa, Pojie and Mamat. It’s always an honor to play alongside with you guys. Hope we will play together on the last leg. To anyone else that helped us during this tournament (you know who you are J), thank you very much. Also to the teams in between our matches that willingly helped us, we really appreciated your kindness. Lastly to all that wishes us luck, thank you, have faith in us and do support us all the way until the end.

MPOC 2010 3rd Leg - Our Story

MPOC 4th leg is around the corner but our story about 3rd leg is yet to come out J. From the bottom of my heart, I’m very sorry for the delay due to I’m starting a new job at KL and have a very limited access to internet. But have no worries now, here come the story.

Since I already reside at KL and other team members are from outside KL, I took the opportunity to come to the Captain’s meeting. Only 8 teams will be competing in Division 2. There are some new, familiar and long-time-no-see teams that will be playing in Division 2. Actually, there are some funny feelings in my stomach during this meeting. Maybe due to our not-so-good performance in the last leg *yeah!  4th place is not a good result for us* and we need to recover from that, or the feeling that we have to win big in this leg to make sure we’re still topping the Division 2 overall ranking. I did experience that feelings before but I’m not gonna tell anyone because I’m afraid I’m gonna jinx it. Ehehehehhe.

Team draw has been completed for Division 2 and Eastsiderzz gonna meet D’Halloween, CMX, Dark Angels and Bellicose for the preliminary games. Looking at the past experience, we’re gonna face a tough fights between with all these teams. That time I hope, we’re gonna do well.

Day 1

Day 1 starts at 8 am. Unfortunately only 4 of us (me, Apex, Jaa & A’are) that managed to come on our 1st game with D’Halloween. Well yeah, it’s a World Cup season, go figure. Ehehehehhe. It sucks playing with 4 people but we’ve shown that we’re not a quitter and managed to win our match 2-0 with D’Halloween. Luckily for our next games, Pojie & Merah arrived to strengthen the line.

Next game was with CMX. We were highly motivated for this match because on last leg, we lost to them. We really want to take the win from them. My personal opinion, CMX got a very good line-up. Most of them are very experienced player. And at the end of the match, Eastsiderzz did win this match with 2-1.

Next game was with Dark Angels. I think this is our 1st time match in Division 2 with them. They really gave us the good fight because we only managed to draw 1-1 with them. Hopefully on our next matches we will perform much better.

Our last game was with Bellicose. Fuh! This is the team that we have a long list of history. It’s quite a balance results actually. Some matches we’ve won, some matches lost and there are also draw matches. This time we managed to draw 1-1 with them. They just make a comeback this season and I hope we will meet them again sometime in future. Definitely, we’ll make sure that we’ll win next time J.

So by the end of the Day 1, only 4 teams will be going to semi-final. It was Red Sevens, Eastsiderzz, Urban X and Dark Angels. Red Sevens will be playing against Dark Angels and Eastsiderzz will be playing against Urban X.

Day 2

Day 2 games for Divison 2 will be starting at 11 am. Guess what? It still 4 of us (me, Apex, Jaa & A’are) for our semi-final match! Eheheheheh. Pojie unable to join us on Day 2 because he has to settle his urgent personal matters. *Wait! Rumours said that Pojie gonna retired from paintball arena. Is it true?*

Since semi-final match is so much important *who don’t, right?*, we have to ask help from my iPerintis colleague, Zahree that plays with Kejahatan to be our coach. Come on man. 4 man playing Race-to-2 format in semi-final match without coach? Then playing against Urban X who beat us on 3rd & 4th places match last leg? We’ll dig our own grave man!

This semi-final was the longest match that we’ve played. We took the win on the 1st game but, lost on the 2nd game with just 3 seconds left on the clock. 3rd game we don’t take it seriously because we want to end the time. In semi-final there won’t be a draw match, so we have to go to overtime 5 minutes game. Anyone win this overtime will go to the final. If the result still draws, another overtime game will be played until there’s a winner. Luckily Eastsiderzz won. So we’re going to final to meet Red Sevens who also have the overtime match against Dark Angels. Wow! Interesting semi-final matches ehh?

Eastsiderzz vs Red Sevens in the Division 2 final match of 3rd leg. The winner gonna be leading overall ranking of Division 2. Personally, I like their fast game. Luckily Denn Nemesis was on our side again as coach. He did a very good job giving instructions on our 1st leg final match. We predicted that this gonna be a very intense match. It’s so intense that even Denn was shaky when guiding us through the match. Eheheheheh. Alhamdulillah, Eastsiderzz managed to secure the win with 2-1 and we are the Champion again, my friends!

It’s unbelievable that we managed to win our 1st matches on Day 1 and 2 even we’re playing with 4 men. Apex informed me that Paul Lam suspected we’re using a bomoh. Hahahahhaha. No bomoh bro. Just our fighting spirit guides us through the matches. It does feel good when we’re winning, but the road to success still far away. There’s still 2 more leg to go. Hopefully we will maintain our good record for the next leg.

I would like to thank my other halves in Eastsiderzz: Apex, Jaa, A’are, Pojie and Merah. It’s an honour got to play side-by-side with you guys again. Also thank you very much to Denn and Zahree, who help us go through this 3rd leg. For others who I left out, you know who you are. Thank you very much also!

MPOC 2010 2nd Leg - Our Story

Gotta feeling that soon Apex gonna gimme a call and ask me to update this website. So, better I get started now :).

For this leg, only 6 teams registered. All the usuals, Red Sevens, CMX, Urban-X, Jokerz & Nasty Gangstarz (familiar faces from JB Syndicate). I believe other teams like Oscar Valkyrie and D'Mercy Kidz (to name some teams) have their own reason to miss this round. Hopefully we all can see them in the next leg :).

On day 1, we're playing with 5 men. Merah was MIA (later we found out that he has a family problem). Without A'are, Apex and Li, Eastsiderzz was filled by Mamat and the returning Pojie. Zul Crazy Hunters give a helping hands as a pit crew + spotter. Thank you very much bro.

So the results for preliminary games on day 1 as below (maybe not in correct orders):
  1. vs Jokerz - Lose
  2. vs Nasty Gangstarz - Win
  3. vs CMX - Lose
  4. vs Urban-X - Win
  5. vs Red Sevens - Win
Sorry, I can remember the details of the match. Total game for day 1 is at least 10 games. But personally, I think this time it less tiring. Maybe due to scheduling even though there are less teams compared to 1st leg, or by other factors. So by 3 wins, Eastsiderzz managed to grab 3rd place spot and will be in the semifinals in Day 2.

On day 2, we're playing with 6 men. The results for semifinals games as follow:
vs CMX - Lose 2-0
So 3rd and 4th placing match is between Eastsiderzz and Urban-X, which has lose to Red Sevens. Even though history wrote that Eastsiderzz always overcomes Urban-X in most of our matches, this time luck is not on our side. So we got beaten by 2-0 points. What a bad Day 2. No win at all :(. But Eastsiderzz managed to get a Fair Play award for Div 2. Well, that's one of good thing happened to us, rite? :)

4th place is not a bad result at all. Still a podium finisher. Just one point differences between us and Red Sevens. Next leg gonna see whether we're still in fights for overall Champion for Div 2. Maybe with a comeback and luck of new daddies, we're gonna get a new hope to continue this fight.

I would like to extend my thank you to all who involved directly and indirectly with Eastsiderzz during this time. Thank you again.

MPOC 2010 1st Leg - Our Story

Before I got messed up with MY-NPL this weekend, let me share our story of 1st Leg MPOC 2010. This season, Eastsiderzz will be playing in new division i.e. Division 2 and new format i.e. Race-to-2. For this leg, only 10 teams registered, so the prizes won't be deducted :). Even though there are teams has been playing in Division 2 last season, but the new format Race-to-2 is still new for them. So it does gonna be a little bit fair to us, minus their experiences :).

On day 1, we're playing with 6 men. Shah was unable to join due to flight issues. So the results for preliminary games on day 1 as below:
  1. Jokerz (1) vs Eastsiderzz (2)
  2. Eastsiderzz (2) vs Oscar Valkyrie (0)
  3. BOW (1) vs Eastsiderzz (2)
  4. Eastsiderzz (1) vs D'mercy Kidz (2)
So, the total game for day 1 is 11 games. We're all exhausted and there's one point on the 3rd match with D'mercy Kidz, 2-3 guys requested (or begged to be exact :)) to be replaced. Unfortunately, we only have 1 reserve player. So, this kinda reminds me of Labuan Open early last year when we're facing D'mercy Kidz on final. It's a best of 3 match and we all exhausted on the 3rd match. Dejavu?

On day 2, Merah was unable to join due work commitment. So again, we're playing with 6 men. The results for remaining preliminary games as follow:
  1. Urban-X (1) vs Eastsiderzz (2)
  2. Eastsiderzz (2) vs CMX (0)
So by the end of preliminary games, the result is: D'mercy Kidz 1st, Eastsiderzz 2nd, BOW 3rd and Oscar Valkyrie 4th.

Games for semifinal and final started after lunch. In the semifinal, Eastsiderzz was scheduled to play against BOW. We won the game by 2-1 points. On the other game, Oscar Valkyrie defeated D'mercy Kidz. It's a relief for us coz we can foresee that final matches with D'mercy Kidz gonna be tough. Well, have I told you about our past experiences with D'mercy Kidz? :)

So the final game is between Eastsiderzz and Oscar Valkyrie. Interesting fact is, both teams just promoted to Division 2 this year. Even though history told that Oscar Valkyrie always overcomes us in most of our matches, this time luck is on our side. So we managed to win the game by 2-0 points.

So this is one of a sweet moment for us. What a good way to start 2010 season. I believe it never cross our minds that we will become champion for this leg. With a new format that requires high level of fitness and enough guys as reserve players, we managed to pull this one even with the shortcomings.

To Eastsiderzz, I'm very proud to play along with you guys on this tournament. I know it's still early, but I hope we will do well on next leg. Even though we're not playing together in MY-NPL 2010 1st Leg, good luck to all of you!

Signing-off for now,
